Art & Activism Film Series

Films About Art and Activism Come to TCA

The Paseo Project is excited to partner with Taos Center for the Arts curating films that highlight contemporary art practices and themes. The Paseo Project has been bringing art to the streets since 2014 and is now looking forward to bringing art directly to the Taos community in the safety and comfort of home. Between February 19th and March 14th, 2021, TCA will offer three films curated by The Paseo Project:

Aggie, 2020. Directed by Catherine Gund
Ai Weiwei: Yours Truly, 2019. Directed by Cheryl Haines
Lemebel, 2019. Directed by Joanna Reposi

These films, all directed by women, bring together some of the best in contemporary documentaries addressing Art and Activism. With a history of highlighting artists addressing important social and cultural issues, The Paseo Project has selected films that combine the creative power of art to move us emotionally, with the strategic work of activism that can change our society.

Art can move us, art can change us. Art is necessary to bring about social change.

The series will conclude with a discussion of Aggie, between Thomas and local artist and activist Nikesha Breeze. Join them on Facebook Live on Thursday, March 4th at 7pm for an in-depth conversation on art and activism.

While we aren’t able to gather in person to screen the film at TCA, the community is invited to “watch with us” by starting their at-home stream at 5:30pm and then join Thomas and Breeze on Facebook Live for a 7:00pm discussion. The discussion will be held on TCA’s Facebook page and archived for viewing post-event. The full film schedule, and directions on how to stream, are on TCA’s website:  www.tcataos.org
