Twirl’s Eye Play
September 23 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm| Free
Things are not always what they seem in Eye Play, an immersive art installation which prompts the viewer to question what is real and what is not as they journey through a dynamic world of optical illusions. Visitors to Eye Play will interact with a variety of machines like zoetropes, phenakistoscopes and thaumatropes and will take part in hands-on activities where they create their own optical illusions including an animating take-away project to add to the party fun!
Eye Play is the culmination of Twirl’s in-school programs during which students will explore and discover the potential creativity, fun and science of how we see what we see and the endless possibilities of perception. Students will gain insight into early animation techniques and how the brain perceives moving pictures. Twirl in-school programs are designed to spark early STEAM interest through hands-on play and creativity and create an age-appropriate platform for the development of 21st century skills. Lessons are aligned with state standards, Common Core, and Next Generation Science Standards. Twirl’s in-school programs serve all Taos area elementary schools and around 500 students.
