Summer 2022
Apprenticeship
Real World Skill Building
Alongside the Internship Program, we are elated to have a few unique opportunities open for youth to apprentice with a Paseo Project Artist in Residence for the month of July 2022. During the summer, The Paseo Project hosted three Artists in Residence. For CHiKA’s month-long visit The Paseo Project was able to offer three apprenticeship positions to work directly under CHiKA.
Apprentices assisted in the pre-production of the installation, learning about the software and hardware necessary to create a public art installation that is engaging and entertaining. They also assisted in the following events and workshops:
Projection Mapping Workshop, Taos Pueblo: This two day workshop, based at the Taos Day School, shared cutting edge technologies and materials to the youth at the Taos Day School. Free access to software and 3D mapping tools were provided.
Facebook Live Demo, July 22: Apprentices assisted us as we went live on Facebook discussing with CHiKA her installation for Taos and the technologies and meanings behind GO03_Taos. The community could meet the interns and learn how AR can bring communities together. The event was posted on our Facebook site, @paseoproject.
GO03_Taos Installation, July 29 + 30: The community was welcomed to Taos Plaza, Friday and Saturday evening, July 29 + 30, from 6pm - 9pm as we filled the Gazebo with the final culmination of GO03_Taos. CHiKA and the apprentices were on site with a physical sculpture, along with the community's contributions from the surrounding five AR sites. Apprentices helped in the installation of the project, as well as assisting visitors in describing the project and how to engage with the technology.
Through this experience, the apprentices were ‘fully trained’ in the installation and execution of this project. For PASEO 2022 weekend, they were in charge of installing CHiKA’s piece in the old Police Station windows on Civic Plaza Drive. CHiKA was able to ‘zoom’ in to consult, but overall, the apprentices were able to install the piece all on their own!
