“Full Metal Poppy” & “Dahlia” | Large Scale Light Installation
“Dahlia” is a continuation of Jacques’ flower series which reconceptualizes organic form through the transformative quality of LED light. The petals of the flower are rendered in perforated aluminum and become translucent when struck by color-changing LED light source. The layered overlap of each petal encourages the transfer of color from foreground to background and visa-versa, dissolving figuration at times and reinforcing it at others. This project reminds the viewer of our connection to nature as well as our responsibility to protect it in an uncertain future.
Standing over 25’ tall, “Full Metal Poppy” is are conceptualization of organic form. The piece features a sketch-like quality that peals apart the flower’s anatomy giving a solid appearance from some vantage points and an ephemeral elusiveness from others. Programmable color-changing LED lights reinforce this perceptual reading by tracing the outlines of the vase and flower petals with a glowing geometric wireframe. This project reminds the viewer of our connection to nature as well as our responsibility to protect it in an uncertain future.
About the Artist:
I specialize in large format art sculpture and custom design commissions. My work resides between the formal disciplines of Art and Architecture, pairing advanced 3D digital design platforms with emerging manufacturing technologies. The result is novel concepts that dissolve the boundaries between digital and physical form.
