100% Taos County Initiative, Questa Creative Council, Questa Economic Development Fund, LOR Foundation And The Paseo Project Present a
Community Mural in Questa
The 100% Taos County Initiative, in partnership with The Paseo Project and Questa Creative Council, invites the community to a public celebration for the completion of a new mural in Questa by Northern New Mexico artist Sean Carpentier, also known as Jisk27.
The Questa Mural Celebration will take place on Sunday, May 31, from 12–2 PM at Questa Visitor Center (1 NM-38, Questa, NM), bringing together residents, families, artists, musicians, and community organizations for an afternoon of art, food, and connection centered around the power of creativity and opportunity in rural communities.
The event will feature a live performance by the Communities of Questa Mariachi, free lunch for the first 100 attendees provided through Wendy’s Food Cart, guest speakers, and informational tables from local organizations including Localogy, Vida del Norte, and additional community partners.
The mural is part of an ongoing effort by the 100% Taos County Initiative with support from The Paseo Project, continuing a growing series of public artworks across Taos County that connect creativity, community identity, and civic engagement. This year’s project was developed in partnership with Questa Creative Council and reflects themes emerging from the 100% Taos County Job Skills Action Team, which has been working to strengthen workforce development, mentorship, accessibility, and pathways for youth and emerging workers throughout the region.
“The Questa Creative Council is honored to be part of this mural celebration and the continued beautification of our village through public art,” states Sierra Hedberg, Executive Director of the Questa Creative Council. “This mural reflects Questa’s deep roots — honoring the history, labor, and economic foundations that have shaped our community, while celebrating the resilience, recreation, and evolution of Questa moving forward. Over the past couple of years, with the support from the LOR Foundation, the QCC has made the Questa Mural Project a priority as part of our effort to bring more murals, beauty, and public art throughout our village. Through this work, we hope to bring joy, inspire connection, and elevate the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of our community. Our hope is that public art continues to help Questa remain a place where people can root, grow, and thrive.”
The mural explores ideas of growth, possibility, cultural pride, and community-rooted futures — highlighting the importance of mentorship, creativity, communication, collaboration, and local opportunity in shaping sustainable futures for Taos County residents.
Lynn Skall, Director, Questa Economic Development Fund shares, “Creative projects like this are an important part of building stronger communities. We believe workforce training, youth opportunity, and supporting local artists are all essential to economic development. QEDF is proud to be part of the Job Skills Action Team and partnerships that invest in people, creativity, and opportunities that promote community growth.”
Artist Sean Carpentier (AKA Jisk27) grew up in Taos and is known for vibrant large-scale works that blend precision, symbolism, and the visual language of Northern New Mexico with influences drawn from his travels throughout Mexico and Central America. His work often reflects themes of wonder, transformation, and the importance of reconnecting with creativity and purpose in everyday life.
The mural initiative began through an open call seeking artists with experience in public art and community-centered practice. The selected mural by JISK27 builds upon broader efforts by the Job Skills Action Team to support workforce development through creative outreach, accessible resources, youth engagement, and cross-sector collaboration across Taos County.
The event is free and open to the public.
